Ford F-150 Pickup to Get a Mid-Cycle Refresh for 2018: USA Today Previews the Expected Updates

Ford's iconic, best-selling half-ton pickup, the F-150, is getting a mid-cycle refresh for 2018, with a number of updates designed to appeal to an even wider customer base. These types of "refreshes" - short of a full-fledged redesign - are becoming increasingly common for automakers, particularly for very popular, high-volume vehicles like the F-150 who constantly face tough competition in their segments. USA Today has the preview on the new F-150 that is expected to arrive this fall.

The 2018 Ford F-150 is getting another big technology injection this year, including driver assist systems already available a number of sedans and SUVs which will slow or stop the truck before it collides with a pedestrian or another vehicle. And new adaptive cruise control helps the truck keep the proper distance between itself and the vehicle ahead of it - particularly helpful during start-and-stop traffic. The F-150 is even getting a Wi-Fi hotspot so you can get online while you're on the road. This should come in handy for contractors and tradesmen who need to do business online throughout the workday.

Additional changes are coming under the hood. The F-150 will have an available 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine for the first time, along with enhanced V6 and V8 engines and broader availability of its new 10-speed automatic transmission. The truck will also get stop/start technology, which is designed to improve fuel efficiency.
